Ride Across Algarve Cycling Challenge | Official Site

COVID 19 ANNOUNCEMENT

In view of the worsening health situation and the expectation for the first months of 2021, we inform that there are no conditions to prepare and hold an event with the characteristics of the Ride Across Algarve on the February dates that were scheduled.

In addition to other factors, and given the great restrictions associated with the “safety shell” that surround each team, it would be impossible in the current context to make one of the most exclusive components of this event viable, which involves providing participants with proximity to the athletes and Pro Tour teams.

For this reason, and with concerns focused on everyone's safety, Ride Across Algarve has been postponed to 2022.

VOLTA AO ALGARVE

Each year, Volta ao Algarve marks the world cycling calendar, as one of the first stage events held in Europe. The good weather and the 5 challenging stages with balanced profiles between the mountain and the flatter roads attract the Continental and the World Pro Tour main teams and cyclists to this professional competition.

Fabian Cancelara, Alberto Contador, Tom Boonen, Gerainth Thomas, Vicenzo Nibali, Alexander Kristoff, Daniel Martin,  Michal Kwiatkowski, Rohan Dennis, Philippe Gilbert, Tadej Pogacard and Remco Evenepoel are some of the cyclists of the Wall of fame of Tour of Algarve the last five Editions.

The less stress lived by riders and teams on the beginning of the season and the portuguese special touch provides Volta ao Algarve with a very special spirit and a friendly ambiance that allows a proximity to cyclists that is very difficult to experience on another occasion throughout the year.

As well as offering the best comfort to recover from the demanding stages, the official Ride Across Algarve hotel is also an important part of the experience.

Using the Volta ao Algarve official hotels, the Ride Across Algarve offers to the participants the opportunity  to live the event side by side  with the backstage of some of the most famous Pro Tour cycling teams.

GASTRONOMY AND WINE

To say that food is a big part of Portuguese life would be an understatement. The Portuguese love to eat, and they especially love to eat out.

Known for its wealth of seafood, spices and olive oil, Portuguese cuisine relies heavily on the Atlantic Ocean and the produce grown throughout the country. A journey through the Algarve will bring you the likes of whole octopus slathered in olive oil, soups bobbing with beans and its unrivalled 'Cataplanas'.

For dessert don’t miss the bite-size egg custards gently dusted with powdered sugar.
